Cut, Cut and Away!

Yes, corny title…but it’s the best I could do. So yeah, basically, in a nut shell, I’m LOVING MY SILHOUETTE!!

On Youtube, I found a tutorial on screen printing with stencils cut from your Cameo. It looked easy and fairly inexpensive, so I thought I’d give it a shot. It was BOTH (easy and inexpensive), here’s my first attempt:

I am so happy with how it turned out! Here’s me wearing my creation:

The shirt was 2.99 from Hobby Lobby. I think I got all supplies for under $20 (I used a 40% coupon for the Speedball ink). I also used the Hobby Lobby brand of white vinyl (in the scrapbook section $7.99) for my stencil and just a half yard ($2.50) of chiffon for the screen. I used a 14″ ($3.99) hoop and will be able to get about 3 screens out of the half yard of material. As far as the ink goes, I got the Speedball ink for fabric (it’s in the lino/ screen print area of Hobby Lobby) and I barely used a tablespoon (maybe even closer to a teaspoon) of ink for this print. Basically, you can get a TON of prints out of the jar of ink ($8.99). And, I think that’s it! You would need some sort of scrapper (to pull the ink across the stencil), but I used a Catalyst Wedge #6 that I have for my mixed media stuff, and it worked beautifully. I used the scrapper that came with my Cameo to make sure the stencil was firmly attached to the chiffon.

I’m also going a bit vinyl crazy:

An altered Starbucks travel mug (that wrinkle above the right eye is no longer there…)

A cheap coffee mug from Bed, Bath and Beyond.

Have a wonderful 4th!!
